Updates on West Coast Port – US West Coast Terminals Suspension for Next Four Days

Dear Valued Customers,

Please be advised that the vessel operation of the U.S. West Coast Ports will suspend for next following four days of this holiday weekend;

starting from this Thursday (Feb 12th, Lincoln’s Birthday) to the next Monday (Feb 16th, President’s day), except this Friday (Feb 13).

According to the Journal of Commerce, Longshore worker and clerks will get paid for range of $54 to $75 per hour and foremen will get paid for the range of $77 and $92 per hour by working on weekends and holidays.

Since this weekend includes two holidays, Pacific Maritime Association (PMA) has made the decision of suspending the operation rather than paying the Longshoremen holiday and weekend pay for their slowed operations.

They will still maintain the gate and yard operation same as last week suspension.

PMA, International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) negotiation was originally scheduled for this Wednesday, Feb 11th afternoon. 

However, PMA has canceled the negotiation.

Thus, no further negotiation developed yet since Friday of last week.

서부항만 관련 업데이트 – 서부 항만의 4 일간 업무 중단 발표 안내 

지난주 금요일 (2월 6일) 안내 되었던 서부항만의 주말 폐쇄 관련에 이어,

이번주 금요일, 2월 13일을 제외한, 주말과 공휴일인 금주 목요일 (2월 12일, Lincoln’s Birthday) 부터  다음주 월요일 (2월 16일, President’s Day) 까지 서부항만 폐쇄 소식을 발표하였습니다.

Journal of Commerce 의 보도자료에 의하면, 하역 작업인부들은 주말과 공휴일 업무시, 시간당 $54 에서 $75를 받으며, 감독직은 시간당 수당을 $77에서 $92까지 받는다고 하였습니다.

이번 태평양해사협회 (PMA)에서의 폐쇄 조치는 높은 주말, 공휴일 보수를 지급하지 않으려는 일환으로 보입니다.

그간 안내드린 것처럼 국제항운노조 (ILWU)의 태업으로 인한 계속 되는 적체 현상이 계속 되고 있는 상황이며,

이번 폐쇄 기간동안 Vessel Loading / Unloading 작업 중단 하나 터미널 gate 및 yard operation 은 계속 진행한다고 발표 하였습니다.

태평양 해사협회와 국제항운노조는 어제 2월 11일 오후에 협상 관련 미팅이 잡혀있었으나,

PMA 에서 미팅 취소를 하여, 지난 금요일 이후 부터 진전된 협상 내용은 없는 상황이라고 합니다.  

이 폐쇄가 마지막 폐쇄로 더이상 지연문제를 야기하지 않길 바래보며  또 다른 업데이트가 있는데로 내용 공유해 드리도록 하겠습니다.
